In 1883, German immigrant CH Wente came to the Livermore Valley to plant vineyards and build a winery. Today the fourth generation of the Wente family manages the oldest continuously operating family winery in California, and Karl Wente, now 5th generation, has recently come on board as junior winemaker.

Wente is virtually the only Californian producer to offer the 'San Francisco Bay' appellation with over 3,000 acres of estate vineyards in the premium coastal area of Livermore Valley, just 15 miles east of San Francisco Bay, as well as 2,000 acres of vineyards in Monterey and two historic wineries.
